This Smart Sprinkler Simplifies Irrigation and Reduces Water Waste (and your bill) By 50%
Plus, Iris Financial founder Chris Joseph on the pod!
Heyyyo,
Watching Bitcoin bounce back from $30k and seeing the Pomps of the world tell me to buy the dip made me start thinking… (dangerous, I know) How much of this Twitter chatter is complete bullshit?!? Some of it? All of it?? Can it be that all of these people are buying at exactly the right time??? I seriously doubt it. I found an app that helps combat this retail-investor-extraordinaire stuff by literally linking your social profile to your trading accounts and sharing only the % gain or loss.
The app is called, Iris! And, I had it’s founder Chris Joseph on Technori Podcast.
It’s pretty amazing when you think about it. If everyday people want to share trades and investing advice, now they can with some proof of work. Obviously, it’s great for transparency reasons, but it’s especially cool for new investors that want to follow other, more experienced people’s trading activity and follow along.

For my noobs; every week I breakdown a startup pitch with the added hook that you don’t have to be a rich dude to invest (if you don't know what that means, click here).

Company Bio
Irrigreen is a revolutionary smart sprinkler system that saves water.
If you have a home with a yard bigger than a BBQ pit, you know how much money is wasted on watering plants and grass — literally thousands per year. And, it comes as no surprise most of that water money is a complete waste (of both time and money). Irrigreen offers a simple fix — smart sprinklers that use weather data and digital printing tech to drastically reduce water waste and save time and money for both residential and commercial users.
Meet the Founder
Watch my full interview with Irrigreen founder, here.
Shane Dyer is the co-founder and CEO of Irrigreen. Shane has a BS Computer Systems Engineering from Stanford University. Prior to this, he was the Founder and CEO of Arrayent, an IoT Platform company that created more than 60 IoT products with Whirlpool, Chamberlain and Sylvania, etc. that exited to Prodea for $37MM.
Shane and his cofounder Gary have a lot of entrepreneurial experience with exits of $37m and $325m, respectively. They’ve both spent the vast majority of their careers in the IoT space — particularly around the home — which is an added bonus given the space they’re currently disrupting.
Traction
Raised $4.9 million from Silicon Valley’s top angel groups
IP protected technology with 6 patents granted and 1 patent pending
Revolutionary Digital Sprinkler saves approx. 50% of outdoor water use
300+ installations since product launch
Founders have deep expertise, 40+ patents, $325M in prior startup exits
Positioned for a $6B+ market opportunity
At home landscaping spend is up 1,000% since the start of Covid, so it should come as no surprise to hear that Irrigreen’s business is booming! With more than 400 new installs in the past few months and dozens of commercial partners lining up. The business is really simple and the ability for contractors to sell Irrigreen into customers is obvious — they stand to increase profits by more than 25%. Additionally, the install process and footprint is about 1/3 of conventional systems, so there is tremendous upside to go along with current growth.

Security Type: Equity
Valuation Cap: $16,000,000
Discount: 20%
Investment Goal: $500,000
Raised (as of publishing): $248,591
Minimum Investment: $150
Here's what I like: These founders are the real deal — with nearly $400m in exits! Beyond that, the product is such an obvious advancement to conventional sprinkler systems. They own all of the patents, the design is simple and attractive to residential and commercial users because it financially incentivizes both customer and installer.
Then, there’s the environmental impact: we’re LITERALLY running out of water and suffering major economic loss with each drought; so why not start saving planet Earth by just wasting less of its precious resources. Irrigreen uses 50% less water and still saves customers more money faster than energy saving solar panels and other so-called, “green” alternatives.
Here's what I don't love: Honestly, the only risk might be the need to build a brand and get distribution before competition brings a similar product to market. Obviously, Irrigreen has lots of patent protection, but there’s a reason big brands hang around.
Who should invest and why: After discounts, the Value Cap for Irrigreen is $12.8m which is high for such a new product, but given the technical expertise, patents and founding team it’s really not that big of a stretch — especially when you consider the technical runway they’ve created against the competition. Something else to consider here is the potential impact of energy saving tax credits that are being discussed throughout the West to combat water shortages. Similar to how Tesla took advantage of the EV tax credits, I could see Irrigreen benefitting greatly from the green shift.
If you’re a homeowner or commercial landscaping/property manager; Irrigreen is an obvious investing opportunity — even if just to take advantage of the perks and discounts you get by investing more than $2k 🤷 The minimum investment is as low as $150 and the product and tech are easy to understand. Plus, given the founder’s prior success; this deal is as low risk as startup investing gets!
As always, startup investing is super high risk, anything can happen. So, don't invest money you need to water your lawn... 💦 💸
